Read our report for Revitalising Britain’s High Streets here.
High streets are more than a place to shop. They’re where communities meet, small businesses take root, and local economies live or die. Yet across the country, town centres are still fighting an uphill battle: rising costs, changing shopping habits, and a growing problem with rogue retailers undermining honest traders.
Labour has made economic growth its central mission. If that mission is going to mean anything on the ground, it has to mean something on the high street too.
That’s why we’ve put together a new paper setting out seven practical proposals to help government deliver on that promise, from reforming business rates and cutting energy costs for small firms, to a proper licensing crackdown on illicit and counterfeit trading. Together, they offer a clear, deliverable route to stronger town centres and fairer conditions for the businesses that call them home.
